I fell off the blog train. I couldn't do it all, so I didn't. But, now I'm longing to update my blog. Rich graduated from BYU-Idaho in December, by surprise. He spent a lot of time looking for & interviewing for internships, until his interviewers began telling him he probably didn't need to do an internship because he had lots of job experience. True story. He petitioned his internship & walked three weeks later without his name in the program. I'm so incredibly, amazingly proud of him. I'm grateful for his experience at BYU-Idaho. It's made him better & blessed our family in so many ways.
Rich's custom CNC machines that he used to make Tungsten rings are packed into wooden crates & sitting in my van, waiting to be hauled to UPS & shipped to their new owners. They've been selling for more than he expected. We may be just weeks away from being completely debt free. (We own no home, however). I have to complement Rich. He was so brave to try his hand at business ownership. Oh the bitter hard experiences that have allowed us to learn so much. As my dad always says, education comes in many forms.
Rich is now deep into his job hunt. Can there be a more raw experience than job hunting? He's interviewed in Rexburg, Utah, & Colorado. I'm guessing more resumes will go out again this week. Our futures are hanging precariously in the balance. Where oh where will we end up? We'd love to stay here. We love the community & the schools. Mostly we love being close to grandparents. I'm not thrilled that I'm 36 & live in a manufactured home that we rent from my parents. It just wasn't ever part of my long term plan. On the other hand, it's been purely magical. I love to walk outside & see my kids gathered around my dad while he hands them each a Susan B. Anthony Dollar, or watch them all gathered around the window talking to grandpa who is on the other side. I love the late night talks with my dad when he's out in the shop tinkering. It melts my heart when I take little Spencer to the car & he looks around the shop saying "Gwanpa", because Grandpa is often there. I love that my mom dutifully comes over each week to watch my kids while I teach piano lessons, even though it's not easy. I love that my mom supports every extra curricular and school event that she can possibly make it to. I love that my parents are frequent visitors at our dinner table. I love that my entrepreneurial Kate calls Grandma and asks if she can work at her house each time there's an item in the school book order that she just can't live without. She know that Grandma pays better than mom. I love that I have roots in Rexburg. I like running into people I know and admire. I love the families I teach piano lessons to. They have blessed my life.
My dad was diagnosed with lymphoma in November. He just finished his third round of chemo & finally didn't end up in the hospital this time. I'm willing to go wherever the Lord wants us to go, but I really want to stay here until my dad is completely past his treatments. It's been hard for me to avoid him while his immune system has been down, all the time knowing that our days left in Rexburg may be limited. I don't even know what to pray for. Is it okay to tell God that we'd really like to stay in Rexburg; but we're willing to go anywhere he wants; but could we please get a job offer now that doesn't start until June if he does want us to move? Can I add an addendum to every prayer? The bottom line is, Rich really needs a job, a good job where he can make a positive contribution & love what he does. Any prayers on our behalf would be appreciated. My dad had a PET scan this week & things look good. Instead of 6 rounds of Chemo they're going to stop at 3 and move on to radiation. That'll start next week. His upcoming African Safari is his light at the end of the tunnel that keeps him going on the hard days.
I thought I'd be soloing it this winter with Rich out of town on an internship. Having him around & not over-committed has it's benefits. I would like to know that our lean years are about to end. I'm hoping God thinks I've been humbled enough.
So much for blogging for a quick minute. That's why I fell off the blog train!
